January Favorites 2013

January 2013 is almost over, and to me this month has seemed very long! Usually at the end of the month I feel like it went by too fast, but this time it feels like it is time for the month to end! This is probably because I have had so much going on with school this month. Anyways, here are the products I have been enjoying this month.

1. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Grapefruit Blast: I have been using this a lot because it gives your lips a great amount of shine, and the color is so pretty. It can be a little sticky, but that really doesn't bother me!

2. Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in  Fuchsia Fusion: This is a new product for Maybelline and it is very bright and bold. It is also not drying on the lips and has a nice amount of staying power. I have not even had this that long, but it is already becoming one of my most used lipsticks.

3. Mary Kay Lash Love Waterproof Mascara: I have been running and exercising a lot this month, so this is the mascara I have been using when I was not using my Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara. This really separates my lashes and does not smudge at all! I have a full review HERE.

4. Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Cherry Blossom: This is a beautiful bright pink blush, and I have used this almost every day this month. This lasts all day on me and I think it makes my face look very bright and glowy.

5. Limited Edition Maybelline Baby Lips in Coral Crush and Twinkle: Coral crush is a sheer orange color and Twinkle is a sheer light pink (which shows up as clear on my lips). These are the only lip balms I have been using this month because they make my lips so soft  and smooth. I love to apply Twinkle before bed which gives me soft lips when I wake up in the morning.

6. Tarte Smooth Operator Translucent Loose Face Powder: I got this as a sample at Ulta during Black Friday, but I just started using it this month. I already know that when I run out of it I'm buying a full size because I really like this! It hides all my pores and makes my skin feel so soft and satiny. People keep telling me how soft my face feels, and I know it is because of this product!

Review: Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes Volum Express Mascara

For a few weeks I have been using this fairly new mascara by Maybelline called The Colossal Cat Eyes Volum Express Mascara in the shade Glam Black. Wow, that has to be the longest name for a mascara ever! Also what makes this Glam Black? Is their a difference between Black, Blackest Black, and Glam Black? Okay anyways,  I was excited to try this out because I keep hearing mixed reviews, so here is what this mascara did for me.

Price: $5-$8 USD
Claims: On the packaging this product claims to give your eyelashes intense volume, no clumps, and it also has a collagen formula.

This has a curved wand with real brush bristles. The bristles are also very short.

Here is a picture of my one of my eyes with no mascara on:

And here is what my eyelashes look like with 2 coats of the mascara on:

This mascara gives me a nice amount of volume and length, which is usually what I look for in a mascara. I actually really like this, but I have two problems with it:

 1. It does clump if you are not careful! As you can see from the pictures of my eye it did start to clump a little bit on the second coat, so the most I would apply is two coats.

2. THE SMELL! If you go smell all of your mascaras you will find that none of them smell nice (seriously go smell your mascaras!), but this smell is so bad it makes my eyes water! I'm not sure if I am just sensitive to the scent, or if I just got a bad batch but it has a strong chemical smell! The smell doesn't bother me after a few minutes though, so I still use it.

Aside from the scent (which many people are not bothered by) and the fact that it does actually clump, I think this is a good mascara. If the Maybelline Falsies mascara didn't exist this one would probably be one of my favorites, because The Falsies does not clump on my. I recommend trying this if you are in the market for a new mascara for a good price from the drugstore!

I hope you enjoyed reading my opinion on this product. I would love it if you left me a comment telling me what your favorite drugstore mascara is!

Review: The Balm Balm Jovi Palette

I had never tried any palettes from The Balm, but since the Balm Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette got really good reviews I went ahead and tried it out. And I love it!!! If I were able to make up my dream palette it would have beautiful eyeshadows with a mixture of matte and shimmer finishes, and it would have unique colors. This product contains all of those things! Plus it comes with some face and lip products. I am so excited that I decided to try this palette.

The packaging is really nice. It is slim and I really like the picture on the front of the palette.

It also comes with a nice sized heart shape mirror.

And here are all of the powder products:

First I'll start off with the eyeshadows. These eyeshadows are some of the best I have ever tried. They have excellent color payoff! You actually need to be careful when using these because of how pigmented they are. The shades also have a slight buttery texture even though they are powder! I do not get much fall out at all from using these shadows though despite the softer texture. And my favorite part about the eyeshadows is that there is a nice mixture of matte and shimmery finishes. The left and right row have shimmery shades and the whole middle row is matte shades. These eyeshadows also have cute names and contain very unique colors.

Here are closer pictures and swatches of all of the eyeshadows.

The next type of product that this palette features are a shimmery gold cheek highlighter and a matte peach/pink blush. These products are actually popular The Balm products called Mary Lou-Manizer and Frat Boy blush. I really enjoy both of these products, and I think they would complement many skin tones.

On the left is a  swatch of the luminizer and the right is a blended swatch.

On the bottom is a  swatch of the blush and the top is a blended swatch.

And finally the last product that is in the palette are lip colors or cream blush. There is a nude mauve color and a red color. These were probably my least favorite part of the palette, but they aren't really bad. I just enjoy the other products so much more. I don't really like using these on the lips because if I need to reapply I don't really feel like going back into a palette. I rather just use a single lip product. These are decent cream blushes though. They last about 5 hours on my skin.

What I really love is the how these are in a section separate from the powder products. Everything stays nice and clean, so it was very smart to do that. I hate when products have all the cream and powders together because it gets messy.

I also like the bill board chart this palette comes with that gives you ideas for different eye looks.

This palette is very nice! It comes with beautiful, unique eyeshadows, and it has a good blush and luminizer. The lip/cheek products could have been better, but I'm just glad they are in a separate area. Also the packaging is cute and functional because it is so slim. I highly recommend trying this unless you are trying to use up other palettes. Your other palettes will get no love if you buy this!!

I am very excited about The Balm products, and I really want to try more because it was difficult finding negatives about this product.

I hope you enjoyed this review! What is your favorite palette?

Haul: New Maybelline Products

A few months ago I decided I was going to stop spending so much money on makeup, and use up some of the products I had. It was pretty hard because there were so many new products coming out for the holiday season and new products were launched for 2013. I did cave once on my no-buy because I couldn't resist good Black Friday deals, but I really haven't bought drugstore makeup in a while.

So yesterday I went to Walgreens and got these products:

-Maybelline The Rocket Mascara in Blackest Black
-Maybelline Fit Me Powder in 355 Coconut
-Maybelline The Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara in Glam Black
-Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Fuchsia Flash and Shocking Coral

Here are some closer pictures and Swatches of the new Color Sensational Vivids. I was so excited to see these colors because they are very bold and bright. These come in 8 different colors and have a similar texture to the regular Color Sensational Lipsticks. These have nice staying power for a lipstick and does not dry out my lips. I can go about 3-4 hours without reapplying. I am excited to wear bright lip colors like these and they will look really nice in the Spring and Summer!

Here are some closer pictures of the Fit Me powder. This isn't a new product, but I have heard so many mixed reviews that I want to try it for myself. This product comes in a compact with a mirror and applicator puff. This has a wide color selection and comes in 18 different colors. I have oily skin and it seems like some people with oily skin love this, and others hate it and say it does nothing for controlling their oil. It seems like most people with dry or normal skin like this though. I am excited to see if this works for my skin type.

I have not tried either of the mascaras yet, but reviews on both are coming soon!

Thanks for reading my small Maybelline haul. Have you tried any of the products shown here? Have you tried the Fit Me powder?

New Years EOTD

Last night I had a lot of fun celebrating the new year with friends and family, and I am really excited about this year! When I think of new year makeup I think of shimmer and glitter, so on my eyes I used a shimmery gold shade and a shimmery green shade. I also decided to wear a glittery nail polish combination that seemed appropriate for the night.

Here is the eye look I wore for the night:

Products I used:

-Mary Kay Eyeshadow Primer
-Maybelline Color Tattoos in Bold Gold, Barley Beige, Edgy Emerald
-Urban Decay Eyeshadows in Half Baked, Twice Baked, Oil Slick
-Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Trio in Cool as a Cucumber (the green shade)
-Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner in Black
-Urban Decay 24/7 pencil eyeliner in Zero
-Maybelline The Colossal Cat Eyes Volum Express Mascara in Glam Black

Thanks for taking the time to check out this post, and I hope all of you have a great year!
