Review: Maybelline Color Whispers
The Maybelline Color Whispers have been out for a little while now, but I thought I'd go ahead and share my opinions on them. The two shades that I own are called A Plum Prospect and Mad for Magenta. As you can see I gravitated towards the purple shades again!
Maybelline claims that these are supposed to feel like a "weightless gel" on your lips. These also contain no oils or waxes, and they claim to give "translucent gel color". These come in 20 different shades and, the price usually ranges from around $7-$9.
A Plum Prospect:
A Plum Prospect is a dark berry/purple shade. This is the darkest shade, and I have found that it has more color payoff than the lighter shade I have.
Mad for Magenta:
Mad for Magenta is a lighter, more pink shade. It gives a slight berry-pink tone to my lips.
Here are some swatches of these shades, (from left to right ) A Plum Prospect, and Mad for Magenta:
I really enjoy these, and I believe they do exactly what the claims say. I can't really feel them on my lips. They have a smooth, almost watery texture as I apply them. These also aren't moisturizing to me, but they do not dry out my lips either.
Also the color payoff claims are pretty much correct. The lighter shade does have a translucent look, but I feel like the darker shade is somewhere in between translucent and opaque.
The lasting power of these is pretty decent as well. I can get about 3 hours of wear out of these. Though I have found that these have the tendency to migrate towards/outside the edge of my lip line if I wear these too long or apply to much.
Overall, I think the Color Whispers are pretty good. I like the range of colors, and they are definitely worth the price. I like how these don't feel thick or heavy on my lips, and I really enjoy wearing these when it's warm outside. These are also sheer enough to apply without a mirror, and last me a decent amount of time depending on how much I am talking or eating. The only thing I don't really like is that they can migrate past my lip line. I am able to solve this problem by making sure I don't apply a whole lot or making sure I don't go over my lips with the product to many times. This isn't a huge issue to me though, and I will definitely purchase more in the future!
