Review: Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream

For a few weeks now I have been using the Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream in the shade light to medium that I received in my Sun-kissed Voxbox from Influenster. I'm always excited to try a new BB cream because of all of the claims they make!

This product comes in two shades: fair to light and light to medium. It comes with 2.5 fl of product, and costs around 11-15 dollars.

When I first received it I noticed that on the box after BB Cream it says "skin perfecting tinted moisturizer with sunscreen". So.... is it a BB cream or a Tinted moisturizer? Hmm....

Here are the 6 benefits it claims to give:

And here is an unblended swatch of the product:

Now, you're probably thinking, "that shade is definitely not going to match your skin tone", and that is exactly what I said! Then I put it on my face and it blended in flawlessly. At first I was really excited about that, but I realized that the only reason it blended in and matched me is because it has barley any coverage. So, I think this is more like a tinted moisturizer with spf than a BB Cream.

Anyways here are the things I liked and disliked about the product.

-Amazing fresh, slightly fruity smell
-5 out of 6 of the skin perfecting benefits are true; Refreshes, Brightens, Hydrates, Smooths, Protects
-Nice amount of Product

-I had to blot the oil on my skin after about 4 hours, which is pretty decent for me

-Hardly any coverage
-Kind of overpriced when you think about the lack of coverage
-I couldn't really tell how the staying power was because of the lack of coverage

Tips: If you have combination-oily skin you probably should use this after you wash your face. If you use it after you already have a moisturizer on it will feel sticky and oily in less than an hour! It does feel very nice if you don't already have on a moisturizer.

Overall, I think this is a decent product. I will continue using it on days where I don't care about coverage and want a moisturizer with spf, but I would not go purchase this when I run out. The smell really is amazing though! I kind of wish all of my makeup smelled like this! I would recommend this if you don't really need much coverage and are looking for a drugstore tinted moisturizer. Also, I think someone with dry skin would appreciate the hydrating qualities of this more than a person with oily skin.

  1. Thanks for the review. I am yet to buy a BB cream. I have sampled them but they were not for me. I don't usually wear light to no coverage products when I go out and if I did I would just use my MAC Studio fix powder which feels light but still gives me pretty good coverage.

    1. No problem! And yeah I like to go out with only powder sometimes too because my skin is so oily, but sometimes I like the extra spf from bb creams

  2. Awesome review! I've heard so many good things about this I need to try it out.

There is giveaway going live on my blog in fifteen minutes for Shabby Apple, a lovely vintage/retro shop if you are interested :-)

  3. Oooh, awesome review. Thanks for doing it!

  4. Great review! I have only tried one BB cream and I wasn't really a fan of it :/ I'll probably either stick to a light foundation or a tinted moisterizer...or just go with no makeup if I don't want much coverage. Thanks for the heads up on the product!

    1. Thank you!! I agree BB creams have been kind of hit or miss for me.

  5. nice review !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. great review, thanks for checking out my blog :) xxx

  7. Yeah, I'm not too impressed with BB creams either. I use them if I am going to be around the pool or at the beach ... where I wouldn't normally wear makeup.

  8. I loved the color, but it was totally gone as soon as you apply it. I think they should revamp this product and bring it back *improved* :) Found you at the Brightside hop.
