When I first heard about these new Maybelline Color Elixirs I wasn't too interested. I love Maybelline, but I prefer lip sticks, balms, and stains to glosses. But I saw this shade, Vision in Violet, swatched on youtube and immediately went to my nearest drugstore to look for it! If you've been following my blog for awhile you probably know that I have a love for purple lip products (really just purple things in general), so when I saw this color I had to have it!
I picked this up at Walmart for $6.49, and the display had 12 different shades. The color selection is really great with shades ranging from nude to dark!
The packaging on this product is nice, and it doesn't feel cheap at all. I like the doe foot applicator too.
The swatch on my lips above is a lot more true to color than the swatch on my skin above (gosh I wish it was THAT purple), but I included it to show the opacity. It is a lot more opaque than a regular gloss which is good because Maybelline claims that this has "hyper-saturated color". I really love this shade!
On my lips this lasts about 5 hours, and after it wears off it leaves a nice cherry color on my lips for another few hours. I really love the lasting power, so I wouldn't change anything about that.
Although I enjoy this product, there are two things that keep it from being perfect in my eyes. The first thing is the smell! It smells like orange creamscicle when I swatch it, but when I put it on my lips it has a very strong chemical smell. It fades after a few minutes though, so I can live with it. This also feels kind of heavy on the lips. I'm not sure how to describe it. For a lot of lip products, I forget that I'm even wearing the product, but I can feel this one. It isn't uncomfortable or anything, but it could be a little lighter.
Overall, I like using this product. I am happy with the color, the price, and the lasting power; but the smell and the heaviness can be slightly annoying. I would repurchase this though because the color is so beautiful!
