April Favorites 2013

April is about to end, and I am somewhat ready for it to end because it has been pretty rainy where I live. It is finally starting to feel like spring though, so I have been inspired to incorporate more colors into my makeup looks. Here are the products I have been using the most this month:

1. Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation: This powder works great for me because it gives me a nice amount of coverage, and it also does a pretty good job at controlling my oily skin. I love using powders instead of foundation around this time when it is starting to get warm.

2. Maybelline Color Tattoos in Painted Purple, Tenacious Teal, and Edgy Emerald: I have been getting a lot of use out of these bright colors this month. My favorite way to wear these has been to pair it with a neutral shade of eyeshadow to create a wearable, colorful look. I also have using these as eyeliner. I make a thick line with the Color Tattoos and then put a thin line of black eyeliner on my lash line. If you haven't tried this product out I highly recommend trying it soon!

3. Eos Lip Balm in Sweet Mint: I have way too many lip balms, and this month I decided to try and use some of them up. This made me rediscover how much I enjoy using this lip balm. This is my favorite eos lip balm and I love the minty flavor.

4. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten: This month I have also been doing neutral eyes with a bold lip, and I love using this lip products on my lips. Since it is a stain I do not have to worry about reapplying often, and I really love this color.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what products I have been loving this month! Have you tried any of these products?

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Review

Since I have pretty oily skin I am always looking for good powders to set my makeup with, to use as powder foundation, and to use for mattifying my skin. The powder I am reviewing is called the Maybelline Fit Me Powder and I use the shade 355 coconut. I always seem to hear mixed reviews on this powder so I figured it was time to try it out myself.

The product comes in a black, square compact.

A mirror and a puff for application is also included in the compact.

To keep this review short I will list what I like and dislike about this product:

-This gives good coverage for a powder
-It is smooth, not chalky
-The price is cheap ($5-$8 USD)
-Gives a glowy appearance because the powder contains a small amount of shimmer particles (shimmer particles aren't very noticeable at all though)
-The packaging is great and has a functional compact and mirror
-Does not give a cakey appearance to the skin
-Can be used as a powder foundation or a setting powder

-This powder could do more for oil control; When first applied I enjoy the look it gives my skin, but after a few hours I need to blot again or touch up.
-The shade range is decent (18 shades), but I think their needs to be more darker shades

Overall this is a good drugstore powder. The texture, price, and packaging are great. This powder also has a better color selection than Maybelline Dream Matte. The shade range could include more dark shades though. I really enjoy this product and I get a lot of use out of it. I have better powders for oil control, but I like how it gives my face a natural look and not an overly powdery look. I would repurchase this. I think this powder would be great for dry and normal skin but only okay for oily skin.

Have you tried any of the products from the Maybelline Fit Me line? What is your favorite powder?

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag?

For spring break I took a short trip to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, so I thought I'd show you all what I decided to bring. I'm actually proud of myself for packing somewhat light! Most of these products are my essential, everyday products.

Here is the makeup bag I used. I got it from Target almost a year ago and it is by Sonia Kashuk. I really like the size of this bag because it has 3 separate compartments.

The top section has a brush holder and I brought a mixture of Mary Kay, Sigma, and Elf brushes

In the next section I brought my Balm Jovi palette from The Balm. This palette is awesome for travel because it is so flat and compact. It comes with a nice selection of eyeshadows with a mixture of shimmer and matte finishes. It also has a blush, a highlighter, and two lip colors.

This last compartment hold the rest of the makeup I brought. Again, I am so happy I convinced myself to pack lightly!

The rest of the eye products I bought were the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner Pen, Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Zero, Tarte Cream Eyeshadow in Slate, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, Maybelline Rocket Volum Mascara, and Mary Kay Eyeshadow Primer.

Since I am having a good skin week and I knew I wouldn't want to wear heavy foundation all I brought was primer, powder and blush. I brought the Maybelline Fit Me Powder, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Flushed, and Mary Kay Oil Mattifier.

Lastly, here are the lip products I brought: Maybelline Baby Lips in Coral Crush and Grape Vine, Maybelline Color Whisper in A Plum Prospect, and Mary Kay Lip Gloss in Berry Tarte. Wow, can you tell that I love purple lip colors?

I hope you enjoyed seeing the products I took with me! How much makeup do you normally take when you go on vacation?

NOTW: Mary Kay Blue Lotus

I haven't use a lot of Mary Kay nail polishes, but they have come out with some nice colors for spring. Today I am wearing a light, pastel blue called blue lotus. So far I am impressed with the quality of the formula and the color of this nail polish.
This nail polish is opaque in 2 coats and it last me about 4 days without chipping when I use a top coat with it. Mary Kay does not come out with nail colors that often, but I wish they wood because I am really enjoying the colors I do own.
Have you tried Mary Kay nail polishes before? What is your favorite nail color for spring?
