NYC HD Trio in Long Beach Sands Review

I got this NYC HD Trio in my Influenster Jolly Box a few weeks ago, and at first glance I immediately thought of Wet N Wild's Walking on Eggshells Trio. I know that trio is loved by many, so I was very interested to see if this one is comparable!

NYC HD Trio in Long Beach Sands
Price: $2.99

These three eyeshadows are housed in durable, plastic packaging. A dual ended sponge tip applicator is also inside.

NYC makes 12 different trios in their HD Color line. They have a nice range of neutral trios as well as bright, colorful trios.

This particular trio has a light highlight shade, a medium brown crease shade, and a pink toned- light eyelid shade. All of these has a similar satin finish. They aren't exactly matte, but there isn't much shimmer detectable.

You can see in the swatches below (without primer) that the pigmentation is decent. They are also a little powdery. The top shade definitely has the best color payoff and the least amount of chalkiness. I've found that these blend pretty easily, but since the color payoff isn't the best the colors are easily muted if you blend too much.

When I use these with a primer I don't have any problems with the longevity of these shadows. The primer also helps with the powdery look of the bottom two shadows.

I hate to give this such a negative review because I actually like the lightest shade! I have used it in a lot of eyeshadow looks lately but, I don't think I would repurchase this particular trio. I think I would like this a lot more if the colors were darker and less powdery, and I think it would suit my skintone better. I am curious about the other trios in this line. I may try one with brighter colors, since the price is pretty good. I do think if you like the colors in this particular trio, you are better off trying Wet n Wild's Walking on Eggshells Trio.

*Disclaimer: I received this product complementary from Influenster, but that does not influence the honesty of this review*

  1. These are gorgeous colours, such a shame they are so powdery. NYC eyeshadows are always a little powdery, I find. The champagne colour looks very similar to an MUA shadow. Think its in the undressed palette.Would love to get my hands on some wet n wild cosmetics, in the UK they are not so excessable.....boooo! Nice post. Big Love Jay xxx

    1. Thanks, and I agree! I like the formulation of their individual eyes quads a lot better, and I get a lot more use out of it.

  2. I'm always worried about the powdery consistency of certain drugstore shadows, so I tend to stay away.

    1. Yeah, there are definitely lots of hits and misses! I've had good luck with maybelline and wet n wild shadows though!

  3. Def looks too chalky and loose to use. But agree that the colour combo could use some work
