Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Pumped Up Mascara Review

Maybelline is my favorite brand for drugstore mascaras. Every time they come out with a new one I'm so intrigued by their bold claims (and pretty colored packaging...). Their newest mascara claims to give your lashes 16x more volume without getting clumpy.

Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Pumped Up Mascara Review
Price: $6.99+
Available at drugstores where Maybelline is sold, Ulta, and

The bright, pink packaging is shaped very similar to The Rocket mascara, also by Maybelline. The brush is curved all around with longer brush hairs in the center, and shorter hairs on the ends. The wand itself is very stiff; not flexible like the Mega Plush mascara.

As you can see from the before and after picture below, this mascara does give me volume, but it also gives me quite a bit of length too! I was so excited to see length because I prefer added length to added volume. I know you're probably thinking, "uh... why did she buy a volumizing mascara when she likes length," but I'm telling you... the pretty packaging sucked me in!

I can't completely agree with their clump-free claim. I find the stopper on the tube a little inadequate, and I feel like I have to scrape product off of the brush every time I use this to avoid clumps. Be careful if you like adding more than 2 coats! Also the brush is kind of big so you have to be careful when applying on the lower lashes.

I like this mascara, and I will most likely repurchase it. It has a really nice balance of volume and length, and it really lifts my lashes (just make sure you scrape off some of the excess). I will never love it as much as The Falsies/Falsies Flared/Falsies Big Eyes, but I do like it better than the Colossal Cat Eyes, Mega Plush, and The Rocket. If you click on any of the mascaras named in this post you can see my past reviews and see how this one compares.

Have you tried any Maybelline mascaras? Which is your favorite?

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in Brazen Berry

It's about time I did another purple lipstick review! This one doesn't get talked about as much as the others in my collection, so read on to see what I think of it!

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in Brazen Berry
Price: $6.99+
10 shades
Available at drugstores that sell Maybelline, Ulta, and

These lipsticks comes in a bright orange tube that really fits the "Vivid" name. I kind of wish the color of the tubes matched the shade like the other Color Sensational lipsticks, but it's not a big deal.

Brazen Berry is a medium purple shade with pink undertones, and it has a shiny finish. In the swatch below you can see Brazen Berry compared to some of my other favorite purple lipsticks.

On the lips the Vivids feel nice. Maybelline claims that the formula is hydrating, and they are not drying- but they aren't hydrating either. I like to apply lip balm before applying this to keep my lips hydrated. If you have dry, flaky lips this will accentuate that though, so I recommend exfoliating before.

The lasting power on this product is comparable to the other regular lipsticks I own. This isn't a long wearing product, so I get about 4-5+ hours of wear depending on how much I eat, drink, or talk.

This shade can be sheered out if you don't want a bold, purple lip. I think it is very versatile and a lot more wearable than some of the other purples that I own because of the pinky hues.

I really enjoy this product, but it isn't my favorite in my purple lipstick collection. I have colors that are a lot more moisturizing than this with the same amount of color payoff (like the Milani Violet Volt Lipstick), but this shade is unique compared to the other shades I own. I do love the Vivids line overall though! I've had Fuchsia Flash and Shocking Coral for a while now, and it's nice to have affordable, bright shades at the drugstore.

My Makeup Story #ShareBeauty + Win $2000 VIP Beauty Treatment!

It's been so long since I've done a chatty, non-review/tutorial post! Today I wanted to share the story of how I got into makeup and continue to be inspired!

When I was very little I was kind of tomboyish. I was always into video games and playing outside all day. I could care less about the clothes I wore or how I looked. My always wished I was a little more girly, but she accepted how I was and never forced it. Then in middle school I discovered YouTube.

This exciting community of passionate, makeup lovers is what originally got me into makeup, and suddenly all my mother's talk about beauty was so interesting! I watched her put on makeup every morning, and soon I was following tutorials on YouTube to put makeup on myself.

I've looked at makeup as an art form from the beginning. But at school kids would tease me, saying, "you must be ugly under all of that makeup," or, "wow, you must have such low self esteem, since you're wearing makeup." These words hurt so badly, but all I would do is go home and try out some new makeup looks. And my search for a creative outlet to deal with the harsh words of my peers is what cause me to start Shadow Liner Girl! I am so thankful for all of the people that I can talk to daily about makeup and the ability to discuss new products with people around the world! And now the people that used to make fun of my for my love of makeup come to me for tips! Heh pretty funny huh?

If you love beauty, I think you need to watch this video! It has such a powerful message, and it will really show you how big of an influence you are to the people around you.

Refinery29 and Regency Beauty Institute are running a contest called the #ShareBeauty Contest which gives you the chance to win a $2000 VIP Beauty Treatment including a $1000 Sephora Gift Card! Click HERE for more information! I would be so excited if one of you won!

Must-Have Summer Beauty Products 2014

I'm a minimalist when it comes to summer beauty products! Although I love to do my makeup, when I know I'm going to be outside all day, I go for a very natural look. These are the products that keep me fresh and worry free during summer activities and vacations!

1. Maybelline Baby Lips in Quenched SPF 20: When outside enjoying the hot weather, most people remember to apply SPF on the face and body, but lips are forgotten. I always make sure to use a lip balm with SPF to avoid skin damage. I love this lip balm from the Baby Lips line! It's so moisturizing and it has a sweet, lemon smell.

2. Hawaiian Tropic Island Berry Lip Gloss SPF 20: Lip Glosses can be harmful to wear out in the sun, but this one from Hawaiian Tropic protects the lips! It has a nice berry tint, and a sweet smell.

3. Mary Kay Finishing Spray: Finishing spray is very important to me because my skin gets very oily in the summer. This setting spray helps keep my makeup in place longer, and spraying is is very refreshing.

4. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: I have tried so many BB Creams and I always come back to this one because it give my skin nice coverage without feeling heavy, and this product also has SPF.

5. U by Kotex Ultra Thin Clean Wear Pads: Light colored clothes are always popular during the summer, and no one wants to change how they dress just because it that time of the month! I've used U by Kotex for years! I have been loving these new pads because they are thin (no need for pad checks now!), and the 3D Capture Core keeps the draws the moisture away from your skin. To try it for yourself click HERE! Yay for free stuff!

6. Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder: This is my favorite drugstore powder of all time! It makes my skin look so smooth and flawless you would think I'm wearing foundation! And since it's powder it keeps my oil at bay.

7. Mary Kay Blotting Sheets: After applying my powder for the day, I really don't like reapplying it. Packing powder over sweat and oil is a breakout just waiting to happen! Instead I use blotting sheets to take away the shine without messing with my makeup.

8. Bath and Body Works Country Chic Fragrance: This is my most used scent every year during the summer because it's light and has a very fresh smell. Spraying this on is so refreshing on hot summer days (I have the old packaging pictured).

Let me know what products you have been loving this summer, and don't forget to get your free samples!

This post is sponsored by Kotex but all opinions are my own.

Bold Gold Eye Makeup Tutorial

The Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bold Gold is one of my favorites, and I'm surprised it has taken me this long to add it to my Color Tattoo series! I decided to do a picture tutorial on this look because I really love all of these colors together!

Products Used:
-Mary Kay Eyeshadow Primer
-Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bold Gold
-Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
-Sugar Pill Heart Breaker Palette
-Maybelline Gel Eyeliner
-Maybelline Pumped Up Colossal Mascara

Step 1: Apply a highlight shade underneath the brow and on the inner corner of the eye.

Step 2. Blend an eyeshadow a little darker than your skin tone into the crease, and place the gold cream eyeshadow on the eyelid.

Step 3. Place a vibrant blue eyeshadow on the outer half of the eye lid. Then place a gold eyeshadow matching the cream eyeshadow on the inner half of the eye lid.

Step 4: Blend a mid-tone purple shade into the crease and blend into the blue on the outer corner of the eye.

Step 5: Bring the purple onto the outer half of the lower lash line, and place the gold eyeshadow on the inner half of the lower lash line.

Step 6: Add black eyeliner to the water line and upper lash line, and add mascara to the upper and lower lashes.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! Would you try this color combination? Let me know in the comments!

NYX Butter Gloss in Raspberry Tart Review

I am constantly seeing people rave about the NYX Butter Glosses and I can't believe it took me so long to try this product! I guess I'm always a little skeptical about a lot of hype surrounding a product, so I'm glad I've finally tried it out for myself. Did it live up to the hype? Read on to find out!

NYX Butter Gloss in Raspberry Tart
Price: $4.99+
Available at Ulta, Target, select CVS Stores, and
Comes in 22 different shades

I like how the packaging on these matches the shade color, so it's easy to figure out which shade is which if you own more than one. The casing is plastic and this product has a doe foot applicator. I really enjoy that the size of this gloss is comparable to a tube of lipstick as well! I'm not really sure why but I prefer short compact glosses to longer ones (like the NYX Megashine Lip Glosses).

We all know that I need to stop going for the berry-purple shades when buying lip products (gosh I have issues...), but Raspberry Tart was just too beautiful to pass up! I think it has the perfect balance of color payoff- it doesn't come off looking like a liquid lipstick, but it also doesn't look like it might as well be a clear gloss.

Here is a swatch of this color:

And here it is next to some of my other favorite berry-purple lip glosses. It is definitely the most purple one I have.

On my lips this feels amazing! My lips can be dry and cracked and gross, but when I put this on they instantly feel soft and moisturized. And there's no stickiness. As far as lasting power, this is about average. I have to apply it after eating and drinking (which I expect), but it doesn't wear of unreasonably fast.

This review has turned into a rave, but I highly recommend trying this out. This is easily my favorite formula of lip gloss out of all the different kinds I own! Wow, I haven't done a negative post in a while... you guys probably think I just rave about everything! But I really love this product, and I'm going to get more shades soon.

Have you tried the NYX Butter Glosses? What is your favorite brand for lip glosses?

Born Pretty Store Foundation Brush Review

If you read my Elf Studio Powder Brush Review, you know that I love finding great quality brushes for a low price! This Born Pretty Store Foundation Brush is one of my new favorites!

Born Pretty Store Foundation Brush
Price: $7.95
Available at

Although the brush looks very nice in the picture online, I didn't expect it to be this nice in person! The brush handle is long and thick which makes it very easy to hold. It feels very sturdy, and remains sturdy after washing the bristles.

These artificial brush hairs are very dense and soft. And the angled shape makes it really easy to get around areas like the nose and under eye area. This is perfect for buffing in cream and liquid products like foundations and BB/CC creams! I do think it would be even better if the bristles were slightly shorter though. But another nice thing about these bristles is I don't notice any shedding and fading after washing!

If you are in need of a nice foundation brush at a good price, I would recommend trying this one. I haven't found a brush this dense for this price! I definitely want to try out some more brushes and brush sets from Born Pretty Store in the future because all of the prices are very reasonable!

Have you tried any brushes from Born Pretty Store? What is your favorite tool to use to blend foundation?

Tenacious Teal Eye Makeup

I've been neglecting my Color Tattoo Series for months, so it's time I added another installment of that! This look was created using the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tenacious Teal. This cream eyeshadow is a gorgeous, shimmery, teal shade and every time I look of it I think of summer.

Products used:
-Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tenacious Teal
-The Balm Balm Jovi Palette
-BA STAR Tropical Eyeshadow Palette
-Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black
-Maybelline Master Precise Ink Eyeliner Pen
-Maybelline The Colossal Pumped Up Mascara in Blackest Black

I really love doing looks centered around the Color Tattoos! I may end up doing a 'Tenacious Teal 2.0" post because they possibilities are endless. I hope you enjoyed!

Do you like Maybelline Color Tattoos? Which shade should I feature next?

Born Pretty Store Eyebrow Pencil Review

The latest product I've been testing out it this Born Pretty Store Long Lasting Eyebrow Pencil, since I've had a greater interest in brow products lately. I never used to do much to my brows because they are already very thick naturally, but in the past few months I've seen how putting more effort into my brows can really transform my look.

Born Pretty Store Eyebrow Pencil
Price: $2.95
4 shades: gray, dark brown, coffee, black
Available on

This product comes in pencil form, except it has a thread which can be pulled when you want to peel away the wood and release more product. No pencil sharpener is needed! This is also a huge pencil! I don't think I've ever had a makeup pencil this long (about 7 in/17.5 cm).

From the swatches below, you can see that this product isn't crazy pigmented, which is actually nice since it's a brow product. It's very easy to avoid the Permanent Marker brow look with this!

Since the product has "long lasting" in the name, I was sure to pay attention to the lasting power, and I found that it lasts 8+ hours before starting to fade. I think this amount of time is really good, and it lasts even longer when I set this with brow gel. It's also nice that this pencil is good for any brow look I'm going for, whether it's bold, defined brows or natural brows.

I really like this brow pencil, and it's all I've been using everyday. I was using brow powders for a little while, but this pencil lasts better throughout the day. And I love the amount of product you get for such a low price. I think the only think I would improve on this product is making the tip pointier, but I really have no major issues with this pencil.

Do you like to do your brows daily? What do you use?
