Makeup By One Direction Review

I was given the opportunity to try and review the new Makeup By One Direction cosmetic line, and I'm excited about all of the products these sets come with! There are three different tins each being released in the US between August 11-25. The international release dates are are TBD.

US RELEASE DATES:
Macy's - August 11th
Stage Stores – August 25th
Dillards – August 25th
Beauty Brands – August 25th
Lord and Taylor - August 25th

Here's the set I received: The Take Me Home Collection.

All 3 sets come in these tins with a brick design on the outside. You can even take the makeup out and reuse them for whatever you want!

Here's the makeup that comes inside: A body/eye pencil, an eyeshadow palette, a lip gloss, a lipstick, a mascara, body stencils, and a nail polish.

The other side of this tin features a few look ideas which can be helpful if you're new to makeup!

The lip gloss is a sheer orange color with glitter, and it comes with a wand and a doe-foot applicator. I like the color payoff a lot. The wear time is average for a lip gloss, and it isn't sticky. I'm not a huge fan of the glitter, but I do think this looks nice when applied on the center of the lips to make your lips look fuller.

The lipstick is a sheer pink shade, and the texture and color payoff is very similar to tinted lip balms. I think this is great for younger girls or beginners. It feels very moisturizing and comfortable on the lips, and I get a few hours of wear out of it.

The mascara has a pretty basic wand, but I really like the formula. It isn't to wet or dry, and it separates my lashes while adding length. It is also very buildable. I have no issues with flaking or clumping.

I was impressed with the quality of the eyeshadows! The four outer shades are very soft, smooth, and blendable. When I use these with a primer I have no issues with lasting power. The center shades is a gold, glittery cream eyeshadow which you can see that I used as liner in the over-saturated picture below (ugh had to use my old camera :S)!! I also used the mascara for the look below.

EDIT: Here's a better pic of another eye makeup look using this palette:

The body/eyeliner pencil is a dark brown shade that used as an eyeshadow base for the look above. It creases when I use it alone, but on top of a primer I have no issues with wear.

These stencils are so cute, and they would be nice for festivals or concerts. There are 5 different designs.

And the last item in this set is a glittery nail polish with large gold hexagonal glitters and smaller pink and blue glitters and the base is clear. You will have to layer it a few times to get the look I achieved. I applied this over Sinful Colors Let's Talk.

Overall, I like this set, and I think a lot of One Direction fans will enjoy it. The products inside are pretty nice quality, and I think my favorite product inside would have to be the eyeshadows. Would you try something like this?

  1. I received the same kit, and it's amazing how our reviews differ! I definitely liked the shadows at first but they disappeared on my eyes after a few hours, and I did use a primer!

    1. That's really interesting! Which primer did you use? So far I've used these with UD primer potion and Benefit stay don't stray and they've been fine, but I wonder how these are with different primers. I might test these again with the mary kay eye primer or elf primer.

    2. I used a bareMinerals primer, which I do like, but it's nothing compared to Urban Decay's primer. I may have to try them out with the UD primer and see how they work! Elf's primer sucked so bad for me. Threw out the ones I had

    3. I completely agree with you on the elf primer! I feel like a lot of people hype it up, but I never really liked it! The UD and the Mary Kay primer are my most used primers! Hopefully these work better with the UD primer
