EOTD: Metallic Purple Eye Makeup

My least used Urban Decay eyeshadow that I own is the shade YDK, and I'm not exactly sure why I never use it. The color is so gorgeous;  it has a very shimmery, metallic finish. I think it looks amazing paired with purples, blues, and greens. Yesterday I made sure to use this shadow, and I really like how the looked turned out.

Steps to complete this look:
-apply the Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the eye
-place Urban Decay's YDK all over the lid, on the inner corner, and on the inner half of the lower lash line
-place Urban Decay's Twice Baked on the outer half of the lid and blend into the crease; also blend into the outer half of the lower lash line
-apply Urban Decay's Ransom on the outer corner and blend into Twice Baked; also blend Ransom into the crease
-place Urban Decay's Oil Slick on the outer corner to deepen the look and blend
-apply the Too Faced White Chocolate eyeshadow on the brow bone

For eyeliner I used the Maybelline Gel Eyeliner, and for mascara I used Mary Kay Lash Love.

I hope you enjoyed this look! Hopefully featuring YDK in a post will make me use it more!

NOTW: Simple Pink Waterfall Manicure

I was going to post this the day before Valentines Day, but I never got around to it. This is kinda late now I guess, but I figured I'd go ahead and post in anyway! This is really pink and girly, yet it doesn't scream Valentines Day because of the lack of hearts, so I would wear this any time.

This manicure was inspired by Sammy over at www.thenailasaurus.com (check out her blog for a tutorial), but I decided to use one color for the waterfall part instead of multiple colors. I really like how this came out, and I'm definitely going to do this again with different colors in the future!

The coral color I used in this manicure is one of the new shades from the Mary Kay Hello, Sunshine collection in the shade Carefree Coral. The darker shade is also a Mary Kay polish in a hot pink shade from a limited edition collection a couple years ago.

I hope you enjoyed this simple look! I really like the effect, and I think everyone should try it.

Milani Shadow Eyez in Winter White Review

I've seen lots of rave reviews of these Milani Shadow Eyez 12 HR Wear Eyeshadows, and my review is kind of a rave review also! This product has been my go-to eyeshadow base for brightening eyeshadows and making them show up better. Read on to see why this is my new favorite!

Milani Shadow Eyez 12 HR Wear Eyeshadow in Winter White
Price: $6.99
Available at most drugstores

The packaging of this product is similar to the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencils. This has a plastic cap and can be sharpened with a jumbo pencil sharpener.

The shade range of this product is pretty nice too! There are 12 shades including a black shade, neutral shades, and colorful shades.

Winter White is a frosty white shade that looks very similar to the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool. As you can see in the swatch below it is very pigmented. I also found this very creamy and easy to blend.

The lasting power on this eye pencil is impressive! Although it is called a "12 HR" eyeshadow, it last about 10 hours on me without creasing when I don't use a primer. I still find that very impressive on my oily eyelids and I'm sure it will last even longer on someone with dryer eyelids. With a primer I don't have to worry about this fading or creasing at all! Compared to other jumbo pencils, like the Nyx Jumbo Pencils and the MK At Play Eye Crayons, this one is superior!

Another thing I enjoy about this product is the versatility. It works great as a base, but because of the lasting power, it also works great alone. I probably wouldn't wear this particular shade alone though... I would definitely wear some of their other shades like Champagne Toast and Brown Deluxe alone.

If you are looking for a great eye base I highly recommend this one! I will definitely repurchase this and try more shades. I've had issues with jumbo pencils creasing before, but these are the best I've ever tried because of the lasting power without a primer. I do love the Maybelline Color tattoo in too cool, but I find the pencil more convenient to use than the pot of cream eyeshadow.

Mary Kay Limited Edition Hello, Sunshine Collection

Today have I some more new products from Mary Kay that I've been using for the past few weeks! These products are part of their new limited edition Hello, Sunshine Collection which I believe will be available on February 15th.

This line features Springy Eye Duos in the shades Summer Sunset and Stonewashed, Creamy Lip Colors in the shades Retro Rose and Carefree Coral, a Lip Gel in the shade Cherry Twist, and two Nail Lacquers in the shades Lemon Parfait and Carefree Coral.

The products that I have here (from left to right) are the Lip Gel in Cherry Twist, the Nail Lacquer in Carefree Coral, the Springy Eye Duo in the shade Summer Sunset, and the Creamy Lip Color in Carefree Coral.

Lip Gel in Cherry Twist: The color of this product is described perfectly by the name. It is a sheer cherry red color, and it has kind of a gel look on the lips because it isn't very dark and opaque. I really like this product for days when I want red on my lips but don't want that bold look. This feels comfortable on the lips also, and lasts about 4 hours on me.

Creamy Lip Color in Carefree Coral: This product is a medium, coral color with a smooth moisturizing texture. The texture and pigmentation reminds me a lot of the Revlon Lip Butters. It feels comfortable to wear, doesn't accentuate lines and dryness on my lips, and last a decent amount of time. I can usually get 5+ hours of wear with this on.

Spring Eye Duo in Summer Sunset: This is the product I was most intrigued by! It has a texture that reminds me of the Maybelline Bouncy Blushes, except these are cream eyeshadows. One shade is a light yellow and the other is a shimmery pink/almost rose-gold shade. I like to wear the pink shade alone, and the yellow shade I like using as a base to make my eyeshadows appear brighter. When I wear a primer with these I don't have any issues with lasting power or creasing.

Here are swatches of the products:
From left to right: Lip Gel in Cherry Twist, Creamy Lip Color in Carefree Coral, Springy Eye Duo in Summer Sunset.

Nail Lacquer in Carefree Coral: This shade is a pretty, light coral color. I usually love the formula of Mary Kay Nail Lacquers, but this one was a little sheerer than the other shades I own. I had to apply three coats to get it to a decent opacity. I like the color, so I'll continue to use it, but the formula isn't my favorite.

Here is a swatch of the Nail Lacquer:

I'm really happy with this collection for the most part! My favorite is the lip gel, and I really wish it wasn't limited edition! I also love the light blue packaging on these products! They're so cute!

What do you think of the Hello, Sunshine Collection? Are there any products that you would try?

Girly Pastel Valentines Day Eye Makeup

Ever since I got the Sunset Beach Baked Eye Trio from Mary Kay a few weeks ago, I've wanted to post a look on here using it. I really love the shades in this trio because it made me think to use a color combination that I wouldn't normally think to use. I think these colors are really pretty for Valentines Day and for the Spring season!

Steps to complete this look:
-apply Milani Shadow Eyez in Winter White as a base for the eyeshadows
-apply the lightest shade from the trio, a shimmery tan color, all over the eye lid
-apply the light purple shade from the trio from the middle to the outer part of the eye lid
-place a darker purple, like Urban Decay's Ransom eyeshadow, to the outer corner of the eye
-use a fluffy blending brush to blend the purples into the crease
-take a light, skin-tone shade and place it on the brow bone to highlight
-finally, use a small brush to apply the coral shade in the trio to the bottom lashline

For eyeliner I did a subtle wing using the Maybelline Master Precise Ink Eyeliner Pen, and I used Urban Decay's 24/7 pencil eyeliner in Zero in my water line. For mascara I used the Mary Kay Lash Love mascara.

I hope you enjoyed this look! Are you doing anything special with your makeup for Valentines Day?

New Mary Kay At Play Products 2014

Last year in August Mary Kay launched the Mary Kay At Play line which contained lots of colorful products geared towards young adults. They've come out with 2 new shades in each part of the line which will be available on marykay.com on February 15th (or through a Mary Kay representative). These new shades will be replacing a few of the old shades also.

There are new Eye Crayons in Over the Taupe and Teal Me More, new Lip Crayons in Purple Punch and Coral Me Crazy, new Jelly Lip Glosses in Violet Vixen and Poppy Love, and new Baked Eye Trios in Electric Spring and Sunset Beach.

Below I have half of the new colors. I have the Over the Taupe Eye Crayon, the Purple Punch Lip Crayon, the Violet Vixen Jelly Lip Gloss, and the  Sunset Beach Baked Eye Trio.

Below I've swatched the Jelly Lip Gloss in Violet Vixen, the Lip Crayon in Purple Punch, and the Eye Crayon in Over the Taupe (from left to right):

And below are swatches of the new Eye Trio on Sunset Beach. This is my favorite new addition because the colors are so gorgeous. I wouldn't have thought to use those shades together in an eye look!

I've already reviewed the whole Mary Kay at Play line, so I'm not going to go into details about these new products. I don't see a difference in quality, so you can check out my original reviews of the Eye Crayons, Lip Crayons, Jelly Lip Glosses, and Baked Eye Trios to get more information on these products.

What do you think of these new products? Do you like all the purple products? I really do! I think these colors are perfect for spring.

Project 10 Pan 2014

I need to stop buying so much makeup. My bio, over in the side bar of my blog, says that I have, " no self control in makeup stores," and that is not an exaggeration! So, I've decided to do Project 10 Pan, which was created a while ago by Laura from buynowbloglater.com. And essentially, you're supposed to use up 10 products before buying any similar beauty products. I've slightly modified the rules though. I'm going to do this through the end of March instead of stopping when I using up everything (which would probably take me until July to do)! And also, I'm allowing myself to purchase only 2 items.

I know I sound kind of crazy at this point, but I can justify my modifications! I'm allowing myself to buy mascara because I really need another tube! My others are drying out! And if I see the Revlon Matte Balm in Shameless in person then I'll probably get it because I've been looking for months now! It's always sold out in my area... not sure why I haven't bought it online yet....Oh yeah, and gifts don't count! I think that's fair right?

Anyway, these are the products I want to focus on using more:

1. Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Deep Rose
2. Maybelline Stylish Smokes Quad in Plum Smokes
3. Maybelline Eye Studio Baked Eyeshadow Duo in Bronze Blowout

4. Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer in Bronze 2
5. Maybelline Fit Me Powder in 355 Coconut

6. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Hot Cocoanut
7. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Strawberry Fizz
8. L'Oreal Color Riche Balm in Heavenly Berry

... Oh yeah, and I chose 8 products instead of 10! Wow, I can't follow these rules at all, can I?.... Project 8 Pan?

I've already hit pan/used up most of all of these products except the lip glosses and the baked eyeshadow. I'll do an update post at the end of March and let you know how many of these I was able to use up.

Have you ever done Project 10 Pan? Let me know if you want to see a review on any of these products!

Impress Pres-On Manicure in So, So Steller

I went a little crazy with nail art back in December, and I think I'm still burned out from that! I've been so lazy with my nails lately, so I figure this would be the perfect time to use this Impress Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails which I've had for a while now. These are available at most drugstores, and I usually see them priced around $8.99.

The shade I have is called So, So Steller, and it's a beautiful duo chrome grayish-blue with pink. This set also comes in a shorter length. I've used lots of these Impress Manicures, but I've never tried this length before. I found that it works a lot better for and lasts longer than the longer version, since my natural nails are short.

For some reason I forgot to take pictures when I first applied these, so my nails are grown out a little in these pictures! These are my nails after four days of wear:

The Impress Manicure features easy to apply stick on nails that don't require any glue and claim to last up to a week. The pack includes a cleansing wipe to clean off the nails before application and a small emery board. There are lots of nail sizes included as well, so I found it pretty easy to get the perfect fit for each nail. There are lots of colors and designs to choose from too! This shade in particular looks so cool in person, but I couldn't get the duo-chrome look to show up in the pictures.

I wore these nails for 5 days before peeling them off, but they probably could have stayed on longer! In the past I have gotten a week of wear out of these.

If you've ever dealt with the frustration of applying press on nails with glue, I think you would really enjoy this. I've repurchase different Impress Manicures over and over, but I think in the future I'll only purchase the short nail length because I'm more comfortable with shorter nails.

Have you ever tried press-on nails? How was your experience?

Top 5 of January 2014

Wow, I was so good about posting three times a week for the month of January, but time got away from me last week! This year I'm going to try to share my top 5 favorite products for each month to keep my monthly favorites posts a little shorter and more consistent.  Here are the products I enjoyed the most last month:

1. Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder in Coconut: I've just started using this powder in the last month, and it's already one of my favorites! It's pretty good for oil control and coverage. It also looks good on the skin, and I don't get that dry, powdery look. This product is pretty new, so I recommend trying it if you haven't already.

2. Maybelline Color Elixir in Vision in Violet: This is a gorgeous liquid lipstick/gloss with a very shiny look. The color is so vibrant too! It's hard to find a lip color that's this purple at the drugstore, so I was very happy to find this shade! I think people that love bold lip colors would love this shade, but this product comes in a wide range of other shades as well.

3. Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Collection:I had to add this product to my list of favorites for the month because of it's versatility. It has an excellent range of light and dark colors, and the range of finishes is nice! I didn't wear a whole lot of eyeshadow in the last month, but when I did I used this palette. The packaging is so adorable too!

4. Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Cherry Blossom: This blush is so beautiful for a natural look, and it has become an everyday shade for me. I think it would work well on a lot of skin tones, and I love that it has a matte finish. I recommend trying Mary Kay blushes if you haven't because they are so silky and pigmented!

5. Mary Kay Brow Gel: Although I really like this brow gel, it is pretty much the same as every other brow gel I've ever tried. I had to include this though because I think I wore this every single day in January! My brows are pretty wild on their own, so I never go a day without at least using this gel! This keeps them in place the whole day.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my most used products for January! What products did you use frequently last month?
