Galaxy Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial

I've always been interested in all things galaxy, outer space, and astronomy related, so I decided to do an eye makeup look inspired by the galaxy trends that have been very popular for the past few years!

Step 1: Apply an eyeshadow primer all over the eye area to keep the shadows from fading and creasing.

Step 2: Apply a creamy, navy, cream eyeshadow base to the outer 2/3 of the eyelid.

Step 3: Apply a dark blue eyeshadow over the cream eyeshadow and blend underneath the eye, keeping it on the outer half.

Step 4: Apply a black eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eyes and blend into the blue shade.

Step 5: Pat a silver eyeshadow on to the inner 1/3 of the eyelid, the inner corner, and the inner half of the lower lash line.

Step 6: Blend a plumy-purple shade into the crease, and add a shade lighter than your skin tone on the brow bone to highlight. Finish the look off with eyeliner on the upper lash line and lower water line and mascara.

Here's the finished look!

Products Used:
-Urban Decay Primer Potion
-Mary Kay At Play In the Navy Cream Eye Pencil
-The Balm Balm Jovi Palette
-Mary Kay Sweet Plum Eyeshadow
-Maybelline Gel Eyeliner
-Maybelline Colossal Pumped Up Mascara

I really like these colors together! What do you think of this look? Would you ever wear something like it?

Two Eye Makeup Looks ft. Mary Kay Sapphire Noir Palette

A few weeks ago I reviewed the new Mary Kay Sapphire Noir Eye Color Palette, and the colors inside are so gorgeous! Here are two different looks I did using the shades in this palette!

Look 1

This look is kind of on the smokey side . I packed the gray shade all over the lid and blended it out. Then I took the darker, charcoal shade,  packed it close to my lash line, and blended it out. I applied the center pink/purple shade on the inner part of my eye, and I placed the purple shade underneath my eye. Finally I added a brow bone highlight from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. I finished this look off with some winged eyeliner (which is lookin kinda rough in these up-close shots :S) and mascara.

Look 2

For this look I took a more classic approach by placing the center pink/purple shade on the all over the inner half of the lid, and I used the gray on the outer half of the lid. Then I blended the gray into the crease. I then placed the dark/midnight blue shade on the outer corner and blended. I put the same blue shade on the lower lash line, and finished the look with eyeliner and mascara.

These looks are sort of similar since I used the same eyeshadows, but I like how both of them turned out! I think I like the 2nd better though because the circular pinky/purple shade is my favorite, and I used it the most in this look.

Which look do you like better?

Born Pretty Store 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette Review

I know it's still August but in my mind it is already fall. It's still really, really hot where I live, but I keep telling myself that it's alright to wear leather, boots, and vampy lips! By the time fall actually comes I'm probably going to be ready for winter though... Anyway, this palette goes along with the fall theme that I've completely incorporated into my style. The gorgeous shades remind me of the changing leaves.

Born Pretty Store 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette
Price: $9.99
Available on bornprettystore.com

The sleek, black packaging looks very nice, and professional! It was surprisingly pretty large, and the eyeshadow pans are big too. They are bigger than a typical round shadow like a mac eyeshadow, but smaller than the average round blush pan.

This palette is filled with gorgeous shimmery shadows including light shades, bronze shades, purples, and a coppery-orange.

Below you can see swatches of each shadow. I find them to be very smooth and pigmented. I did find the lighter shades to be a little more soft and powdery than the others, but they are still usable. These last all day on my eyes when I use an eyeshadow primer.

Here is a look I did using shades from this palette (the gold glitter is from a Makeup By One Direction palette). I didn't have any issues with blending or color payoff. I do wish there was more matte shades though.

Overall, I enjoy this palette. The shades are gorgeous, and the pans are large. This price is very fair too. The only thing I would like for this palette to have is more matte shades, that way I could get a complete look using it. I will continue to use this though, and I would recommend it.

Writing Process Blog Tour

I haven't done any tag type posts in a while, so I'm so excited to be a participant in the Writing Process Tour! I was nominated by Erica over at Diary of a Trendaholic to do this tour! If you aren't familiar with Erica's blog go check it out right now! She does lots of beauty posts and even incorporates posts from her travels as well!

(yup that's a Joseph Haydn bust in the pic.. I like classical music)

Here are the questions:

1. What am I working on? I'm looking at a lot of the fall trends, and I'll have some reviews and tutorials coming up in the future relating to fall! I also have some more looks coming up for my Color Tattoo Series!

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre? I try really hard to not do only reviews and favorites type posts because those are most of the posts I see. I try to add in some tutorials to mix things up and show people a way to use the products I've reviewed.

3. Why do I write what I do? I originally started my blog as a creative outlet because none of my friends and family wanted to talk about makeup 24/7 like I love to do! I fallen in love with the fact that I can easily discuss different products and get new beauty tips from other makeup junkies all over the world!

4. How does your writing process work? When I get inspired to do a post I make a list, whether it's on my phone, a notebook, or a sticky note in my purse! Then I try to take these ideas and plan out which ones I want to do for the month. I usually take pictures of products in bulk, and I try very hard to schedule my posts 1-2 weeks in advance.

And here are the bloggers I'm nominating to continue the tour:

Katy from Skin Stuff By Katy- Katy is a fellow beauty obsessed blogger! She posts a variety of informative beauty topics including reviews, hauls, favorites, and empties blog posts.

Keisha from The Chrysalis Gals- Keisha is a makeup artist, and owns Chrysalis Cosmetics! On her blog she shares great tutorials, as well as reviews.

Smokey Emerald Project Runway Makeup Look

I am a huge fan of Project Runway which is a TV show on the Lifetime network, and each week the designers finish of their looks with Mary Kay products. Here's a tutorial on a look I did which was inspired by the jewel-toned smokey emerald look that makeup artist Luis Casco created.

 1. First I apply the Mary Kay Cream Eye Color in Meadow Grass all over my eye lid as a base for the rest of the colors.

2. Then I placed the Mary Kay Emerald eyeshadow all over the eyelid and brought the color underneath the eye to add to the smokey effect.

3. I placed Lime in the inner half of my eye lid, and brought it down to the lower lash line as well, keeping it on the inner part.

4. After warming up the crease with a warm brown and highlighting the brow bone with a matte, cream colored eyeshadow, I smudged the Mary Kay black eyeliner at my lash line. Then I smudged it out with black eyeshadow on a smudge brush. I added the liner to the outer half of the lower lash line as well.

5. Finally, apply mascara to complete the look! I used the Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening Mascara.

Here's the completed look:

And these are the products featured in this post! Each product performed great, and you can definitely expect to see these used in future looks!

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial! The jewel-toned eyes and the deep lips are so perfect for fall! Let me know if you try this look out. I know color can be intimidating for a lot of people, but don't be afraid!

Makeup By One Direction Review

I was given the opportunity to try and review the new Makeup By One Direction cosmetic line, and I'm excited about all of the products these sets come with! There are three different tins each being released in the US between August 11-25. The international release dates are are TBD.

US RELEASE DATES:
Macy's - August 11th
Stage Stores – August 25th
Dillards – August 25th
Beauty Brands – August 25th
Lord and Taylor - August 25th

Here's the set I received: The Take Me Home Collection.

All 3 sets come in these tins with a brick design on the outside. You can even take the makeup out and reuse them for whatever you want!

Here's the makeup that comes inside: A body/eye pencil, an eyeshadow palette, a lip gloss, a lipstick, a mascara, body stencils, and a nail polish.

The other side of this tin features a few look ideas which can be helpful if you're new to makeup!

The lip gloss is a sheer orange color with glitter, and it comes with a wand and a doe-foot applicator. I like the color payoff a lot. The wear time is average for a lip gloss, and it isn't sticky. I'm not a huge fan of the glitter, but I do think this looks nice when applied on the center of the lips to make your lips look fuller.

The lipstick is a sheer pink shade, and the texture and color payoff is very similar to tinted lip balms. I think this is great for younger girls or beginners. It feels very moisturizing and comfortable on the lips, and I get a few hours of wear out of it.

The mascara has a pretty basic wand, but I really like the formula. It isn't to wet or dry, and it separates my lashes while adding length. It is also very buildable. I have no issues with flaking or clumping.

I was impressed with the quality of the eyeshadows! The four outer shades are very soft, smooth, and blendable. When I use these with a primer I have no issues with lasting power. The center shades is a gold, glittery cream eyeshadow which you can see that I used as liner in the over-saturated picture below (ugh had to use my old camera :S)!! I also used the mascara for the look below.

EDIT: Here's a better pic of another eye makeup look using this palette:

The body/eyeliner pencil is a dark brown shade that used as an eyeshadow base for the look above. It creases when I use it alone, but on top of a primer I have no issues with wear.

These stencils are so cute, and they would be nice for festivals or concerts. There are 5 different designs.

And the last item in this set is a glittery nail polish with large gold hexagonal glitters and smaller pink and blue glitters and the base is clear. You will have to layer it a few times to get the look I achieved. I applied this over Sinful Colors Let's Talk.

Overall, I like this set, and I think a lot of One Direction fans will enjoy it. The products inside are pretty nice quality, and I think my favorite product inside would have to be the eyeshadows. Would you try something like this?
