Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush Review

I reviewed the Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Cherry Blossom last year, so now it's time to give another shade some love. This blush shade is one that I had overlooked for years. It seems so basic, but it has become a staple in my daily makeup routine.

Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush
Price: $12
Available at marykay.com and through Mary Kay Beauty Consultants

The packaging is a simple plastic case with the metal pan inside. It can easily be removed to put in any of the Mary Kay custom compacts.

This gorgeous peachy-pink shade is a lot more natural than Cherry Blossom. In the macro shot below you can see the very finely milled gold shimmer.

Here is a heavy swatch (right) and a blended swatch (left): In the heavier swatch you can see that this blush looks ashy on my skin tone, but when sheered out, the gold shimmer creates a gorgeous, natural highlight shade. I've been wearing this sheered out on my cheekbones daily.

As I said in my last review, the MK Mineral Cheek colors normally last around 6+ hours on my oily skin before fading, but they would likely last longer on someone of a dryer skin type.

Shy Blush is a great shade overall, and it is very versatile. It is a great peachy-pink blush for lighter skin tones, and a pretty highlight shade for darker skin tones. The price is pretty good too. Mary Kay has 10 other mineral cheek colors also, if you are looking for a different shade.

Urban Decay Electric Palette Review and Swatches

Urban Decay released this palette months ago, and I'm mad myself for not buying it sooner! This review is going to be short because the pictures of this product do all the speaking!

Urban Decay Electric Palette
Price: $49
Available on urbandecay.com, and at Sephora and Ulta.

The packaging of this palette is so colorful and gorgeous! It is a plastic case with a magnetic closure and a nice mirror.

The 10 pigments inside of this palette are amazing. I feel like I don't even need to say a lot about them. Just look at the swatches:

From left to right: Revolt, Gonzo, Slowburn, Savage, Fringe

From left to right: Chaos, Jilted, Urban, Freak, Thrash

These were all swatched on bare skin using one swipe of product applied from my finger to my arm. The texture is smooth and blends very easily. And I don't experience a crazy amount of fallout from these shades.

I did notice that the first two shades in the palette, Revolt (silver), and Gonzo (blue), were a little less smooth than the other shadows. This issue is fixed when an eyeshadow primer is used.

When I wear these shades on my eyes I don't experience fading or creasing when I use an eyeshadow primer. Also, to get these shades to appear even brighter, use a white eyeshadow base.

If you love bright pigments, I highly recommend this palette. It's going to be so fun creating lots of looks with this. The colors on the bottom row are my favorite!

Have you tried this palette? Do you plan on purchasing it?

Sephora Birthday Haul 2014

My birthday was September 10th, so I was excited to get to redeem the Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift. I also finally got the Urban Decay Electric Palette which I've been lusting after for months!

The colors in the Urban Decay palette are amazing! I was in disbelief as a swatched each shade. I'll have a full review coming soon.

The Beauty Insider birthday gift this year is two Makeup Forever products which was exciting because I'm pretty new to this brand. This set came with a mini lipstick in Rouge Artist Natural, and a mini Smokey Extravagant mascara.

I also redeemed some of the points I have accumulated from previous orders, and got this Buxom 100 point perk. It came with a mini Hold The Line Waterproof Eyeliner and eyeshadow samples.

Here are swatches of the Makeup Forever lipstick and the Buxom eyeliner:

Bad to the Bronze Eye Makeup Look

My favorite color tattoo (other than painted purple heh) is Bad to the Bronze. It is my most used, which you can tell from the huge crater in it in the picture below. I think this shade is the most practical for everyday wear. You can use it all over the lid for a quick wash of color, or use it as a base for other shadow like I've done here:

For this look I applied Bad to the Bronze all over the lid as a base, then used bronzy shades from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette to add definition to the outer half of the eye lid and the crease. Then I used the matte cream shade, Milk Chocolate, to highlight. For liner I used the Mary Kay Black Eyeliner and for mascara I used the Mary Kay Lash Lengthening Mascara.

This shade seems to be one of the most popular shades in the Color Tattoo range. Have you tried it?

Born Pretty Store Liquid Eyeliner Pen Review

I've gotten so spoiled over the years using pen style liquid eyeliners! I never want to go back to using the kind with the pot and brush. Lately I've been using this Born Pretty Store Liquid Eyeliner Pen:

This eyeliner is no longer available for purchase on  bornprettystore.com , but there are lots of similarly packaged eyeliners available.

This eyeliner features an easy to use, fine, brush tip that can be use to create thin or thick lines. When worn on the eyes the finish is matte.

Below you can see this compared to the Maybelline Master Precise Ink Eyeliner Pen. The Maybelline liner is darker and shiner in finish while the BP Store liner is matte and a little more muted in color.

I've been wearing this liner daily for the past few weeks and I haven't had any problems with the lasting power. It does take a minute to dry, but once it sets I don't have to worry about smudging or flaking throughout the day.

Check out the aftermath of my eyeliner swatch session!

Overall, this is another nice product from Born Pretty Store! I wish it was a little darker, but I do enjoy the matte finish. The prices of the products on bornprettystore.com are really great, and I love that the shipping is free world wide. If you want to try something from them make sure to use the coupon code below:
